Simple way of setting safe browsing for kids
You can notice that youtube searches are presenting lot of adult garbage results. Also google search may produce bad result too. It is not safe for family environment. But you can avoid this garbage and you can still use youtube and google with filtering service. This is how it is done:

It is very simple, just go to bottom of youtube page and turn on Safety.
Then click on lock safety mode. It will prompt you to login to your account. The setting will be remembered.
Also turn ON SafeSearrch for google.

For advanced users there is OpenDNS but you need router access to do that. I have all these 3 items set. All these can not prevent 100% safe search environment for kids but makes it better.
