1 Kings 6:1 NKJV - "And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD."
Acts 13:18-22 NKJV - "Now for a time of about forty years He put up with their ways in the wilderness. "And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land to them by allotment. "After that He gave them judges for about four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. "And afterward they asked for a king; so God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. "And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king…'"
[By Paul’s reckoning this should be the 595th year after the Exodus; 40 plus 450 plus 21 (Samuel’s rule) plus 40 (Saul’s reign) plus 40 (David’s reign) plus 4 equals 595.]
Answer:
Joshua 13:7, “Now therefore, divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh”. Likewise, the Israelites divided the country of Canaan according to their tribes.
The Israelites became proud, and their behavior was against the Lord. So, the Lord God raised the heathen countries against the Israelites and punished them. After their repentance, He created the judges for their salvation. So, the judges saved the Israelites from the plunderers. Judges 2:16 NKJV - "Nevertheless, the LORD raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them."
After this, Israelites desired a king to reign them, the Lord God arranged Saul as the king. Thereafter the son-in-law of Saul, David became king. Thereafter Solomon, the son of David became a king to the Israelites in 1 Kings 1:30.
1 kings 6:1, “He began to build the house of the Lord”.
We know that these incidents happened in 480th year after Israelites came out from the Egypt. That means, Moses and Joshua got victory over the heathen in Canaan and divided it. Thereafter the Lord God rose up the judges to save from the plunders. Thereafter, the Lord made the Saul as king to the Israelites according to their desire. Thereafter David, after David, Solomon became king to the Israelites. The king Solomon began to build the house of the Lord. If we read in the history of the Old Testament, above things happened within the period of 480 years. In the period of the Apostles, Paul said the same matter which happened in the book of Samuel and kings briefly among the terrible nation in the Acts of the Apostle 13:18-22. Paul did not say by referring the Old Testament, but he said briefly by remembering the incidents which he read in his youth within 4 or 5 sentences in the Acts of the Apostles 13:18-22, about 480 years history of the Old Testament.
Here the Paul said approximate years as the 480, but not said by referring the Old Testament. Even now we are saying approximately that the Lord Christ was born 2000 years back. Likewise Paul also gave sermon to the people briefly about the history and the number of years approximately as he remembered. So, there is no contradiction among these two sentences.
